Tavira has one of the most interesting architecture of all of Algarve. Its origins date back to 2000 BC during the time of the Arab occupation. Here fishery held a great importance. In the seventeenth century, the port situated on the Gilão riverbank, was an important place for the shipment of wine, salt and dry fish. Tavira was totally reconstructed after the earthquake catastrophe in 1755.The Pousada de Tavira has 36 rooms, all with a view to the patio or the garden with pool.
